Wolf Medicine

Mexican Wolf Population Now Tops 100 in US

15 years ago I led a small group who carried the Wolf energy from Minnesota down to New Mexico to do a blessing ritual for the Mexican Gray Wolves that were being reintroduced into the wild.

Minnesota at one time sheltered the last remaining wild wolves in the lower 48 states, so it seemed fitting that we give some spiritual assistance to this noble effort.

Thus, I was so pleased to read the article linked below, that tells of how the wolves, after a very rough start, have been flourishing.

This is just wonderful news to share for all those who feel a connection to our animal brothers and sisters.

The Mexican wolf (Canis lupus baileyi), a smaller subspecies of gray wolf, was hunted out of the wild in the United States by the 1970s.

Once driven to the brink extinction in the United States, the population of Mexican wolves has doubled in the past five years.

— there are now 19 packs, with at least 53 wolves in New Mexico and 56 wolves in Arizona. The 2014 total also included 38 wild-born pups that survived through the end of the year

(keep reading more at the link)

I could discuss the Wolf energy, and how Wolf can assist one as a spirit animal; but rather than doing that, I would love to hear about other people’s  experience with Wolf Medicine ~ So please share!

  1. Cnawan – Thank you for this post. I’m not well-read on wolves, and I don’t research a lot about their spirit animal qualities. I’m pretty simple in my love of wolves. A few years ago I just listened, and it was clear to me that I was Wolf in this simple but profound way: I am present where I stand. I know that no matter what step I take next, I must sniff out the land under my feet in order to know which way to proceed. It is a constant process of standing, and sniffing. – Tania created a beautiful and amazing chest and neck piece for me with Wolf on one side of my neck and Raven on the other. That design she entitled Shaman’s Necklace, and if interested you can look on her site to see its beauty. Again, thank you for this information that tells me our brothers and sisters in the Wolf family are becoming more in number. Peace, Mari

  2. Reblogged this on Laura Bruno's Blog and commented:
Nice to hear some good news about the healing of our planet. This reminds me, too, of an earlier post, “How Wolves Change Rivers”: https://laurabruno.wordpress.com/2014/02/16/how-wolves-change-rivers/
…and, of course, Women Who Run with the Wolves. Mostly, I’m pleased that Wolf Medicine is making its way into places of extinction. Their strength and resilience brings hope that we can find healing in other areas, too. Thanks, Cnawan!

    • Yes, that is an amazing article about how wolves effect ecosystems – the web of life – we really do need all our relations for the world to stay in balance. Gotta love women who run with wolves!!!

  3. This is indeed positive news coming from your location and I am pleased to hear it. However… their brothers and sisters in the western part of Canada are not so fortunate at this time. They are being mass slaughtered despite the many voices calling out for this to stop — it breaks my heart.

I’m sorry to be the bearer of sad news but perhaps if more of us were aware of what’s happening to the wolves in western Canada, maybe the power of our collective consciousness could produce some much needed wolf medicine to help turn the tide for them.

    • Thanks, so much, Demitra, for bringing this to our attention. So terribly sad, so senseless. I’ll join with you in sending prayers for this, as I hope everyone else will who reads this. Thank you again for this comment.

  4. Great news! Though wolf hunts are sadly returning to some other places like Wyoming and Wisconsin. Prayers and more needed to save their fierce green fire.
